A Dress for Kathleen. Remembering an Aunt through Stitching and Creative Writing | Heather Richardson | Antrim & Newtownabbey Branch

Heather Richardson wanted her aunt Kathleen to be alert to the world around her – its smells and colours and tastes. She began to write fictional fragments, imagining Kathleen’s journey to and from work that summer of 1939, inventing her memories. She then stitched the words onto the dress.
Kathleen’s life was then presented as a book. In the process, Heather also tells the stories of Kathleen’s parents and their lives together in rural Northern Ireland in the first half of the 20th Century.
