Places - Towns & Villages
The North of Ireland Family History Society (NIFHS) has an extensive collection of books about places – towns and villages. These can shed considerable light on where your ancestors lived and they often contain illustrations of those places and the surrounding countryside. These books are for consultation in the Library and not for borrowing.
The books are shelved at IR 900 in the Randal Gill Library.
Another excellent source of often very detailed information on places in Ulster is the set of Ordnance Survey Memoirs, which are organised on a parish by parish basis – the forty volumes plus Index cover most of Ulster with greater detail on the more northern parishes.
The books are shelved at IR 070 in the Irish Journal Room.
