Talk for NIFHS Antrim & Newtownabbey Branch, The Ulster-Scots Story by Nelson McCausland, Monday 10 June 2024 @ 7:00 pm. Just 12 miles of sea lie between Northern Ireland and Scotland so it’s no wonder there are so many family links between the two areas. One aspect of this story is of the Ulster-Scots community and how they influenced the customs, language and heritage of Ulster as well as further afield. Alongside covering the bigger picture, our speaker will be focusing on the South Antrim area. Everyone is very welcome (in person or online) and, as well as Scottish and local people, North Americans with Scotch-Irish roots may be particularly interested in learning more about this aspect of their heritage. Nelson McCausland is the Chair of the Ulster-Scots Community Network which aims to preserve, promote and develop Ulster-Scots heritage and culture. He is a retired politician and teacher who has been interested in the Ulster-Scots story for well over 30 years and also has a keen interest in researching his family tree. *Please note the change from our advertised programme. We would like to thank Mr McCausland for stepping in at short notice. Hybrid event: on-site & on Zoom. All welcome. Free. Online – please email Newtownabbey@NIFHS.org to get the Zoom link. In-person – please join us at the Spinning Room, Mossley Mill. Mossley Mill location on map Light refreshments...
